Update – Bloor St W Complete Street Extension Consultation Report & Committee Date

Recently, City staff released a report on the public consultation process and feedback received regarding the Bloor St W Complete Street Extension. City staff engaged with residents and stakeholders in a thorough consultation process for this project, during which they engaged with:

  • Local BIAs and Residents’ Associations through individual meetings and a group meeting

  • Local businesses in a survey assessing loading demands and other key business requirements

  • Residents and neighbours through 2 public drop-in events, an online survey, and by email and phone

  • Local Grade 3-7 students through a school engagement session at Islington JMS

The feedback shared in this report mirrors what my team and I have been hearing from residents, with support for new cycling infrastructure and increased pedestrian safety balanced by concerns about traffic congestion and impacts to businesses and parking.

The Bloor St W Complete Street Extension project is a key step in addressing the current and future needs of our growing neighbourhoods. This project will be considered at the June 5th Infrastructure and Environment Committee (IEC) meeting under item IE4.3 (Cycling Network Plan - 2023…3rd Qtr Updates) with five other City-wide cycling infrastructure projects that enhance and connect our existing cycling network. City staff are requesting delegated authority to address operational and safety issues with regards to the cycling network. This will allow for changes to be made more quickly while being more responsive to potential traffic or other issues that may arise. I intend to support item IE4.3 at IEC and at City Council.

Should this pass at Council, I look forward to working collaboratively with City staff, residents, and local businesses to ensure this new infrastructure is constantly improved as we install the project and learn more through ongoing evaluation and analysis, and through practical experience.
