  • A group of new parks are coming to the Six Points neighbourhood! The parks will surround the new Etobicoke Civic Centre and Civic Plaza, and include Etobicoke Centre Park (larger than 12 basketball courts), Dunkip Park (about the size of a mini soccer field), and an expansion of the existing Six Points Park (larger than three NBA basketball courts). Public engagement is planned through Winter 2023!

Transportation + Infrastructure Projects

  • The Bloor St W Complete Street Extension between Runnymede Road and Resurrection Road aims to make travel on the street safer, more inviting, and attractive for everyone. The project will provide road safety improvements, cycle tracks, and public realm upgrades to meet Toronto’s Vision Zero Road Safety Plan and Climate Change Action Plan goals.

A thorough consultation process with BIAs, Residents’ Associations, local businesses, and residents informed the final design of the project, and City staff will continue to monitor and make changes to ensure that it’s constantly improved.

  • The Park Lawn and Lake Shore area is a vibrant waterfront community that is set to continue to transform and intensify over the coming years with the revitalization of the former Christie’s cookie factory site. The Park Lawn Lake Shore Transportation Master Plan (TMP) — a comprehensive transportation study — was undertaken to plan for the required transportation infrastructure in the area. The TMP includes three new streets to complement the proposed Park Lawn GO Station, new streetcar loop, and dedicated streetcar right-of-way. Keep an eye out for consultation on Street A and the Legion Road extension in the fall!

  • In consultation with the local community, the City has been working on a Neighbourhood Mobility Plan (NMP) for the Mimico area that identifies, prioritizes and recommends short and long-term improvements to traffic operations and road design to support safety for all modes of transportation.

City staff will be coming back to the public this fall for a second round of public consultation to present a plan for neighbourhood street improvements. Local stakeholders and residents will have an opportunity to comment on the proposal and provide feedback before a final set of recommendations is established.

Development Applications

Our ward has a significant amount of development planned and underway. These applications stand out – either for the affordable, accessible, supportive, or other non-market housing they provide, or for their impact on current + neighbouring residents.

  • Houselink and Mainstay Community Housing is Toronto’s largest nonprofit supportive housing agency. Their proposal for a new affordable and rental community housing development at 140 The Queensway helps to address a critical need for high quality, accessible, and stable housing for seniors with low incomes. The new building will be six-stories with 38 one-bedroom apartments. Many of the units will be fully accessible and barrier free, and this project will be highly energy efficient. Funding for this project is through The City of Toronto’s Open Door Program and the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.

  • The Canadian Helen Keller Centre (CHKC) is a registered not-for-profit corporation that provides deeply affordable rental housing and support services for deafblind individuals. In accordance with this mission, they are undertaking the redevelopment of 150 Eighth Street in partnership with the City of Toronto as part of the Rapid Housing Initiative. This 56-unit affordable and accessible apartment building will help reduce CHKC’s waitlist and give more people with a combination of hearing and vision loss access to an independent life. So far, CHKC has secured $32 million of the $38 million needed to complete the project.

  • The current development applications to the City are for phased demolition of the five existing 7-storey rental apartment buildings, and construction of a total of five new residential apartment buildings with heights ranging from 12 to 30 storeys, including two rental buildings and three condominium buildings.
